World Championships Houston Travel Deposit
Congratulations! Your student has been accepted to travel with the team to the FIRST World Championships in Houston, TX, pending team qualification. To confirm participation, we are requesting a $250 deposit toward travel, hotel, and meal costs.
The FIRST Championship is a culminating, international event for the youth robotics competition season and an annual celebration of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). In addition to eight full fields of robot competition, the event gives students the opportunity to explore STEM career paths, network with industry professionals, and seek out scholarship opportunities as we prepare young people for the future.
✅ To confirm your student's participation, please do the following by Friday, April 4 at 5:00 PM:
Reply to the notification email confirming permission for your student to travel (a formal permission form will follow).
Submit the $250 deposit through this store item or by check (payable to DRHS Robotics Booster, delivered to Pat McCandlish).
If the team does not qualify on Sunday, April 6, deposits will be refunded after April 8.
✈️ Anticipated Travel Details for Blue Cheese:
Expected travel party: ~30 students and 15 mentors. Each student will be assigned a mentor responsible for them during the trip.
Departure: Tuesday, April 15
Return: Sunday, April 20
Students will miss school from April 16–18.
Hotel accommodations are based on quad occupancy.
Meal costs cover all meals in Houston (meals during travel to/from Houston are out of pocket).

Flight: $700
Hotel: $400
Meals: $250
Local transportation: $150
Booster contribution: –$500
Estimated total per student: $1,000
Final costs and payment instructions will be shared during the week of April 7.
