Welcome to the Mentor Onboarding Guide
Thank you for your interest in mentoring with Blue Cheese Robotics! Our mentors are essential to the success, growth, and safety of our students.
Whether you're an engineer, educator, parent, or simply someone who wants to support STEM, we’re excited to have you here.
This page will guide you through all the required onboarding steps to officially join the team.

Mentors support students in areas such as:
Mechanical engineering, CAD, machining, fabrication
Programming (Java, embedded systems, vision, AI)
Electrical wiring and robot systems
Media, marketing, outreach, and business operations
Leadership, team organization, and safety guidance
No FRC experience is required. Only an interest in helping students learn.

All mentors must complete the following:
HCPS Volunteer Application (background check required)
FIRST Inspires Mentor Registration
FIRST Youth Protection Program (YPP) screening
Blue Cheese Mentor Census
Each step is covered in this course with full instructions.

The team is flexible. You choose your level of involvement. Typical commitments:
1–3 weekday meetings per week
Occasional weekend meetings
Build season (Jan–Feb) tends to be busier
Competitions (optional but appreciated)
Outreach events (optional)
Even 1–2 hours per week makes a meaningful impact.

We welcome adults age 18+ from all backgrounds, including:
Engineers, programmers, makers, and trades professionals
Teachers, educators, and college students
Parents and community volunteers
Business, design, or creative professionals
FRC alumni or STEM enthusiasts
You do not need any technical experience.
